Jill Malek’s wall paper installation Corners, at OPUS Projects, pushes the potential of her hand silk screened wall paper to effect the interior environment of a white volume of space. Exploring the minimal origami of the folded wall surfaces of the exhibition space, bands of selected wall paper designs by the artist/designer span and bend across each surface creating implied zones and volume registries. The rhythmic patterns invented by Jill Malek overlay a set of visual chords that inflect varying temporal qualities within the space.
"Frequency is the measurement of a recurring event in time. The interval during which a recurring sequence of events takes place is a cycle. the world is a composition of parallel frequencies and cyclical events; the sounds of waves crashing, the phases of the moon, the seasonal migration of birds, precipitation and the water cycle, the stages of animal life, the beat of the human heart. the result of recurring events in nature generates a stunning energy, perpetually informing our senses. Through subtle shifts of movement and scale, these designs are inspired by the fluctuating patterns of frequency found in nature and the world around us."
