DAVID OLENICK
"I'VE GOT NOTHING TO PROVE TO YOU PEOPLE"

October 9 - November 11, 2014

New York illustrator and graphic designer David Olenick offers a uniquely minimal and poignantly funny look at the world around us. He articulates his view of human nature through ingenious, geometrical portrait renderings of puns and character flaws. His personified animals and objects serve as protagonists and jesters, embodying our shared intimate shortcomings while simultaneously providing poetic license for them.

Olenick's art is inspired by anxiety, embarrassment and profanity.  He invents his world of zen-like humorous koans while seated in Manhattan bars and restaurants, enhancing his comic insight with the aid of a cocktail or two.  He fuels his artistic vision with museum crawls, low carb meals, and conversations about art, where he freely shares his seasoned opinion that simple designs are actually the hardest kind to create.
